Frequently Asked Questions

When should I seek therapy?
Generally, therapy is called for when you feel stuck and the advice of family, friends, other support networks and your own efforts are not enough.  While struggling is never comfortable, in therapy I have found it can be a doorway to fulfilling changes. It's best to make an appointment before you are in crisis, though wherever you are at emotionally, I am glad to help.

What happens in our first session?
Prior to your appointment please complete and bring with you the First Session Consent Form from the Forms Tab of my website. Please arrive on time for your appointment. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the consent forms.  We will then discuss your reasons for coming to therapy and get to know each other.  We will begin to uncover possible directions and goals for our work.  Our sessions will be 50 minutes and payment is due at the time of our session.

How long does therapy last?
The process and length of therapy varies quite a bit. Your reasons for coming to therapy, how long your concern has been present and your goals for therapy are some of the relevant factors. I have experience in both brief, solution-focused methods as well as long-term psychotherapy.

How often will we meet for therapy?
I generally meet with clients once per week at a regularly scheduled time. Once we determine a day and time, it will be reserved for you.

Can you prescribe medications?
I do not prescribe psychiatric medications. Only a Medical Doctor or Nurse Practitioner can prescribe these medications. I do have a working knowledge of many of these medications and often collaborate with prescribing physicians and psychiatrists as a part of coordinating a clients' care. I can provide referrals for medication evaluations if necessary.
